What are some of the fees Comcast impose on their customer? The answer is difficult as it depends on the particular Comcast service you have, plus, Comcast doesn’t exactly make these clear on their website. So far, we have description of the fees for Comcast Digital Voice. Will add more going forward.
Comcast Digital Voice Fees
The taxes, fees and surcharges assessed on your Comcast Digital Voice service are comparable to those charged by most voice service providers that provide a full suite of services, including access to services for the hearing- or speech-impaired, and enhanced 911 service.
Listed below is a description of the most common taxes, fees and surcharges assessed on your Comcast Digital Voice service. For specific pricing information, please contact your taxing authorities.
- The Regulatory Recovery Fee recovers costs that Comcast Digital Voice incurs in order to ensure the adequate support of various public services and to support various regulatory programs. These costs may include charges imposed by state and local governments to help pay for emergency services such as fire and rescue, and for the relay center that transmits and translates calls for hearing-impaired and speech-impaired individuals. The Regulatory Recovery Fee also recovers costs related to state programs that guarantee affordable voice services for all Americans, including consumers with low incomes, those living in areas where the costs of providing telephone service is high, schools, libraries and and other programs. The Regulatory Recovery Fee is not a tax or a government-required fee.
- The Universal Connectivity Charge recovers costs that IP enabled voice service providers are required to contribute to the Federal Universal Service Fund which supports federal programs that guarantee affordable voice services for all Americans, including consumers with low incomes, those living in areas where the costs of providing telephone service is high, schools, libraries and rural health care facilities. The Universal Connectivity Charge is not a tax or government required fee.
- A State Sales Tax is imposed on voice services and is mandated by state government.
- A Local Sales Tax is imposed on voice services in some jurisdictions, and is mandated by local government.
- Gross Receipts Taxes and Excise Taxes may also apply to voice services in certain jurisdictions.
- In certain jurisdictions, the state or local government may require IP enabled voice service providers to apply a 911 surcharge directly on IP enabled voice services. In these jurisdictions you may be assessed a 911 surcharge in the Taxes, Surcharges and Fees section of your invoice. In this case, you will not be assessed charges related to emergency services in the Regulatory Recovery Fee.
- Comcast Digital Voice service does not asses a Subscriber Line Charge, which is a fee that many voice service providers charge in order to allow their customers to converse with callers that use other networks. By not charging this fee, Comcast Digital Voice service provides savings of up to $6.50 per line, per month or more.

Transactions made in currencies other than U.S. Dollars will be converted to U.S. Dollars under the then current regulations of VISA. Those regulations currently provide that the conversion rate may be either the wholesale market rate or government-mandated rate in effect the day VISA processes the transaction. The currency conversion rate in effect on the processing date may differ from the rate in effect on the transaction date or the posting date. Some Brief Facts on FICO Scores
A FICO score is a credit score computed by the good folks at Fair Issac Corporation. The score is formulated base on various factors from each of your respective credit report. What a FICO score basically represent is your creditworthiness to lenders. The higher your score, the better your chances for credit approval. The lower your score, your chances of credit approval from lenders will be less likely.
Why FICO Scores are Important
Knowing your FICO score allows you to know what type of interest rate you can receive from lenders, and how likely you are to be approved credit. A FICO score range from 300-850, and each score, as mentioned, is based on your report from the big three credit reporting agency: Experian, TransUnion, and Equifax. Because each of the report may be different from one and another, you may have three different FICO scores.
Unfortunately, FICO scores are not free, and they’re not cheap either. You can purchase your FICO score from Fair Issac’s website. Thankfully, there are a few different ways you can get comparative credit scores for free.
There are also numerous locations for promotional discount codes on FICO scores from myFICO at various place on the web. They range anywhere from 10% off to 20% off purchases.

Credit card fees blows.
To add insult to injury, when you get hit with a credit card late fee or a over-the-limit fee, your mistake will also be reported to the credit reporting agency, dinging your score and worsening your chance to get approval for lending. So much for that yacht you want to build from scratch via plastic bottles!
Here’s four easy ways to avoid credit card fees:
- Setup an online account for your credit card. Most major credit card providers will have extra features for their online access, giving you email or text message alerts when your bills are due. What’s that? A message from Jenny, wanting to hook up for the weekend? Nope – just your credit card company reminding you to pay your freaking bill. Nice!
- Pay Online! As with online access, one convenient feature is the ability to setup your account so that you can pay your credit card online. Slap in your routing number, checking account number, and bam – online payment saves the day.
- Change your due date! Many major banks allows you to change your date to fit your busy lifestyle. After all, there’s parties to crash, Guild raids to run, and exams to fail. Chase allows you to set your due date to the specific day you want in the online account access. Don’t see such an option? Phone your credit card company and see if such an option is available.
- Don’t get a credit card! Hah. If you have trouble managing credit card fees, find yourself constantly getting hit with an over-the-limit fee, then perhaps a check/debit card may work better for you. Or heck, good old fashion cash doesn’t hurt either.
Remember, each time you’re hit with a credit card fee due to a mistake you make, whatever purchase you’ve made on the card just became extra expensive. Save yourself money that can be better spend elsewhere, and take responsibility for your credit card. Use the tools available and combat those fees!
October 25th, 2008 — Credit Cards
Ah. The Citi mtvU. Very cool and “hip” card, if you’re from 1990s. Regardless of the MTV co-branding, the Citi mtvU is indeed a great card choice for college student.
Why? Here’s a list of reasons:
- 5 points for every $1 spend at restaurants (including fast food), bookstores, music stores, video rental store, and movie theater. College necessity spendings? You bet. 1 point for everything else.
- Points can accumulate to exchange for gift cards to numerous nation wide retail stores, essentially making this a 5% cashback card on restaurants, bookstores, music stores, video rental, and movie theater.
- Up to 2,000 points per semester for maintaining good GPA. Two semesters of good GPA? That’s an easy $25 gift card to the Gap, Old Navy, Banana Republic, and more. Three semester? Make it $50 gift card.
- 25 additional points per moth for paying on time and not going over limits. That’s an extra 300 points per year just for doing what you’re suppose to be doing already.
But what about the fees?
Here’s the list of fees you should watch for:
Annual fee: None! Huzzah!
Foreign Transaction Fee: 3% for each purchase after its converted into US dollars. Aka = Don’t bother using this abroad.
Balance Transfer Fee: 3% of each balance transfer; $5 minimum
Cash advance fee: 3% of each cash advance; $5 minimum (never use cash advance!)
Late Fee: $15 on balance up to $100, $20 on balance of $100 to $250, and $30 on balance of $250 and over. Don’t pay late! Use automatic bill payment to avoid paying needless late fees!
Over-the-credit-line Fee: $39. Don’t go over your credit limit! You’ll not only get hit with a pointless fee, but you’ll also put a ding on your credit history! The same goes for paying late!
Got a question about a fee on the card? Leave a comment.
